OneRepublic biography

OneRepublic is a 6-member American pop-rock band with a worldwide reputation and acceptance. This self-proclaimed "genreless" band was constituted in 2002 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The lead vocalist of OneRepublic is Ryan Tedder. Other members include Zach Filkins (guitarist and violist), Eddie Fisher (drummer), Brent Kutzle (bassist and cellist), Brian Willett (violinist and keyboardist), and Drew Brown (rhythm guitarist). The first album of this band was released in 2002 on MySpace.

This band started performing at numerous venues in the Los Angeles area immediately after its formation. Many record labels contacted them to sign a contract. However, OneRepublic chose an imprint of Columbia Records, Velvet Hammer. Greg Wells was the producer of their first album. The recording of the album was completed in 2005 at the studio of Wells, Rocket Carousel in California. It was supposed to be released on June 6, 2006. Unfortunately, Columbia Records decided to drop this band two months before the expected release date. However, the lead single of this album Apologize was released on MySpace. This song peaked at the number one position on MySpace charts.

The first album of OneRepublic, Dream Out Loud was launched in 2007. Timbaland remixed Apologize, the lead single of this album. This song won worldwide acceptance immediately. It peaked at the number one position on the chats of sixteen countries. Further, Apologize won them a Grammy Award nomination. More than 7 million copies of this song have been sold worldwide. Stop and Stare, another single from this album, was also a super hit. Dream Out Loud received the Platinum certification from RIAA.

OneRepublic released its second album, Waking Up in 2009. The four singles of this album, Good Life, Marchin On, Secrets, and All the Right Moves became immensely popular among music lovers throughout the world. The single, Good Life reached the top ten of the US Billboard Hot 100. The third album of this band, Native was launched in 2013. It reached the elite group of top ten albums on the Billboard 200. Native is the highest-charting album of OneRepublic. It reached the number four position on Billboard 200.

The single, If I Lose Myself was a super hit in many countries. That is to say, it featured on the top 10 singles charts in many countries. Another single, Counting Stars also became incredibly popular in numerous countries. It found a place among the top 5 songs in the USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, and Germany. This song is the highest-charting single of OneRepublic in the UK so far. It reached the second position on the US Billboard Hot 100.

The fourth album of this band, Oh My My was released in 2016. Several musicians, including Santigold, Peter Gabriel, and Cassius collaborated on this album. A few singles, including Kids and Wherever I Go, were released before the launch of this album. The album, Oh My My is often considered an experiment by the band. OneRepublic changed the usual sound pattern of the previous albums.

The famous single, No Vacancy was launched in 2017. In the same year, OneRepublic launched three more singles, Rich Love with Seeb, Stranger Things with Kygo, and Truth to Power. In 2021, the band launched its fifth studio album, Human. It also received a warm welcome from music lovers in the USA, UK, and many other countries. More than 16 million records of this band have been sold to date.

Musical Style of OneRepublic

According to Ryan Tedder, OneRepublic does not believe in the genre. Good music influences people irrespective of the genre, including hip-hop, indie, pop, or rock. It is hard to link a specific music style to this band. Tedder and his team were inspired by eminent musicians like Prince, M83, U2, The Beatles, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

An Overview of Awards and Achievements

During the formative years, OneRepublic received several American, Billboard, CMT, and Echo Music Award nominations. The band received the Eska Music Award in 2010 for the International Band of the Year. The prestigious Grammy Nominations include Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal (2009) and Most Popular Grammy Artist (2022). It won the LOS40 Music Award for Best International Song in 2008.

OneRepublic received the MTV Asia Award for Best Hook Up in 2008. This band is also the recipient of the Webby Award for Best Music Video in 2017. Other nominations include Teen Choice Awards, People's Choice Awards, NRJ Music Awards, and MTV Europe Music Awards.

Albums and Other Contributions

This band launched five albums, Dreaming Out Loud (2007), Waking Up (2009), Native (2013), Oh My My (2016), and Human (2021). The leading singles include Apologize, Stop and Stare, All the Right Moves, Secrets, Marchin On, Good Life, If I lose Myself, Counting Stars, Something I Need, Wherever I Go, Rescue Me, Rich Love, Lose Somebody, West Coast, and I Ain't Worried.

One Night in Malibu is the only live album of OneRepublic. The extended plays include Hit 3 Pack: Stop and Stare, Live Session, Live from Zurich, I Lived, and Sunshine. The EP. This band also released promotional singles such as Everybody Loves Me, Feel Again, What You Wanted, A.I, Lift Me Up, Truth to Power, Born to Race, Somebody to Love, and White Christmas.
