"Don't Stop" lyrics

"Don't Stop"

[Lindsey Buckingham:]
If you wake up and don't want to smile
If it takes just a little while
Open your eyes and look at the day
You'll see things in a different way

[Buckingham and C. McVie:]
Don't stop thinking about tomorrow
Don't stop, it'll soon be here
It'll be here better than before
Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone

[Christine McVie:]
Why not think about times to come?
And not about the things that you've done?
If your life was bad to you
Just think what tomorrow will do

[Buckingham and C. McVie:]
Don't stop thinking about tomorrow
Don't stop, it'll soon be here
It'll be here better than before
Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone

[Buckingham and C. McVie:]
All I want is to see you smile
If it takes just a little while
I know you don't believe that it's true
I never meant any harm to you

[Buckingham and C. McVie:]
Don't stop thinking about tomorrow
Don't stop, it'll soon be here
It'll be here better than before
Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone

[Buckingham and C. McVie:]
Don't stop thinking about tomorrow
Don't stop, it'll soon be here
It'll be here better than before
Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone

[Buckingham and C. McVie:]
Don't you look back
Don't you look back
Don't you look back
Don't you look back

Writer(s): Christine McVie
Christine McVie, keyboardist and singer of the band, wrote this song after she got divorced from band bassist John McVie.
The album could've been called "Yesterday's Gone" after a line in this song. The title "Rumours" was chosen after John McVie noted that everyone in Southern California seemed to talk about the personal dramas in Fleetwood Mac: Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were also going through a break-up and writing songs about each other, and Mick Fleetwood was going through a divorce.
Bill Clinton used this song as the theme song for his presidential campaign in 1992. The band reunited on stage for the first time in more than a decade to play the song at his inauguration in 1993.
Status Quo covered this song for their covers album "Don't Stop" (1996).
"Don't Stop" was performed by the whole band during a full-band reunion on stage in London's O2 Arena on the 26th of September 2013, when the band invited Christine McVie, who quit the group in 1998.
This song was covered by the cast of the TV show "Glee" in the episode titled "Rumours" (2010).
John McVie had no idea that Christine McVie wrote the song about him. He told Mojo magazine in 2015, "I never put that together. I've been playing it for years and it wasn't until somebody told me, 'Chris wrote that about you.' Oh really?"
