HEART OF CYGNUS LYRICS

1. The King Is Dead

Under starlight and moon, beneath blazing sun
The world stays her course, and time carries on
Seasons pass, men rise and fall
And change is unchanging, touching us all
The kingdom in ruins, smoke wisps lace the sky
A flame flickers, then dies, still more will arise
Though dark be the path, you mustn't turn back
For 'round the next bend, your hopes there may lie

2. Jonas

I see the ships in a crystal bay as they wait to reach the shore
I've always lived in this quiet port, but I long for something more
To sail the dark and stormy deep... to ride the wind and waves,
'Til we finally reach the shore of our destiny
We don't live forever
Time's not on our side
Feels like it's now or never
I gotta leave this place
Before I find I've been left behind

3. At The Portside Inn

She came upon a moonlit night
With hooded cloak and downcast eyes
No diadem, no royal crown
A princess in disguise
Sitting at the Portside Inn
Watching moonlight on the bay
A weathered captain sips his ale
And dreams of sailing home
She sits across the table
And they talk into the night
They spoke of danger arising in the east...
Of a summoner whose evil magic grows
They sail on the morrow for the fortress of the beast
The abyss of the dragon, to the mines and the labyrinths below
Then they told of perils, and of great serpents in the sea...
Nightmarish evils, and sorcery hidden in the deep
I sat at the table, and then they called for more wine
With tales of adventure, we drank until the morning light
I'll go wherever you will go and sail out into the unknown
For life is but a winding path that leads us home

4. Sailing North

Climb abroad and cast away the lines, and hoist the sail
For we leave today at the light of dawn
Saying goodbye to everything I've ever known
Is not an easy thing, but I've got to go or I'll never know
See the castle on the hill above the bay
With it's silver spires gleaming in the sun
Carried by the wind and waves we roll along
Breathe the salty air as the life we knew fades from view
Let me ride the wind to the edge of new horizons
I want to see the stars from shores of distant lands
Two days to the north, we laid anchor then built a fire on the shore
And somewhere deep came the call of rolling thunder
And then the rain began to fall...

5. At The Fjords

6. To The Abyss Of The Dragon

On a bleak and cloudy break of a misty fortnight's dawn,
We reached the fjords and traveled on
We anchored in the moonlight 'neath the mountain o'er the bay
The fortress, the abyss of the dragon
Beneath the cover of darkness we hastened on our way
For the enemy has many eyes
Climbing rocky hillsides and striding trackless wastes
We headed for the mountain side
On a lonely hillside, hemmed in by stone and tree
With no fire for fear we would be seen
We'll wait until the dawn to see our way and travel on
To the pass, the fortress of the dragon
When the storm has come and wind stands against you
May you find the strength to journey on
When the darkness falls, you can feel the eyes upon you
May you have the courage to stand strong
On a bleak and cloudy break of a misty fortnight's dawn,
We reached the fjords and traveled on

7. When Wargs Attack

Silent, we march to the oncoming darkness,
The storm gathers over the plain
The air is static and still, and it's starting to rain
Far in the distance the crack of a thunderclap sounds
And the lightning whips forth
Then in replay comes the sound of deep drums from the north
Fly o'er the pass for the enemy's found you!
Run swiftly and unsheathe your sword! Hear the
Screams of bloodthirsty werebeasts riding their Wargs!

A voice in the dark, mare in the night,
Haunting your dreams, stirring your fright!
Crack of the whip raking your back,
The terror that grips when Wargs attack!
Hammer and tongs, shackle and chain,
Furnace and fire, torture and pain!
Crack of the whip raking your back,
The terror that grips when Wargs attack!

Casting our burdens and gripping our weapons we hurl ourselves over the plain.
The gates of the fortress are shut, now behind us the fell riders blocking escape

Little hares caught in a trap;
One little twist, their necks will snap!
Crack of the whip raking your back,
The terror that grips when Wargs attack!

Completely encircled and all hope surrendered, a shriek in the sky high above
Spewing fire, dragons descend on our scattering foes

8. Fading

Born on the wind, feels like I'm floating
A dizzying blow, my head is spinning
I'm trying to hold on to the hope and the dreams I had but
Like the evening sun, my hope is fading
When I was young, I saw the beauty
Of the sun and the moon and the world all around me
With the eyes of a child I saw destiny smiling back but now
Like an old moon, my hope is waning, fading
Fading, like the light after mid-winter's moon, my hope is waning
I'm shaken, like an autumn tree stripping by the wind, my faith is shaken, I'm fading
Oh
But I'll try to hold on
Yeah, but I'll try to hold on
Fading, like the embers that glow on my hearth, my life is fading
I'm breaking; a fire once burned in my heart but now it's just breaking
I'm fading...

9. The White Witch

I stare into the water, a placid pool of crystalline...
But a pale and wretched shadow is staring back at me.
It's been so long, I can't recall the man I used to be
Before I heard her siren song, now imprisoned in her isle in the Dead Sea
The White Witch feeds my veins
Her venom dulls the pain
And though her pleasures fill my cup
It's never quite enough
And the more I stay, the more I fade away
When she caught my gaze my soul was trapped in ecstasy
And in her lair we gave ourselves to pleasure, endlessly
But now I see the ghosts that haunt the moonlit rocks and caves
Shifting shadows whispering for her to come and save...
The White Witch feeds their veins
Her venom dulls their pain
And though her pleasures fill their cup
It's never quite enough
And nothing but their shadows will remain...
Looking back in time, I remember days
Though the wind was cold I could feel the warmth of the sun upon my face
And the midnight sky was vast, and filled with endless dreams
But now all that I see are these cold walls of stone,
And I want to go home
But I don't know if I can ever leave...

10. The Mage

Lie down, rest your weary heads, just lie now
Breathe in the smoked scented air, breathe deeply
Nothing can hurt you inside of these walls
The magic is strong, so sleep here in peace til the dawn
Crystal visions in a looking glass dimly
Freezing; an icy touch beckons and freezes
Great sails in the wind being carried along
A soul that's surrounded in stone, yet hope lingers on
Ooh... to your course stay true
The dream will guide you through
The day will come; we'll break the spell and start again, anew
Ooh... to your course stay true
The dream will guide you through
The day will come when our hearts are one
We'll break the spell and start again, anew
And when you awake a new ship awaits
Built with the craft of magical hands
To speed you along from dusk until day
'Neath midnight's veil the moon runner sails

11. Into The Storm

In the morning they set out
'Neath the mountain's misty veil
Sped on by northern winds
Into the deep they sailed
Standing on the quarterdeck
With leather cloak and steely eyes
'Neath brooding skies
The captain spies the horizon
Coming to the captain's side
She stares into the bleary night
And prays they're not too late
To sound the warning
For the mage's vision told
Of amassing Corsair fleets
The alliance must be warned
Before the land is reached
Thunder clouds are looming lowly
A brooding storm is twisting overhead
Giant waves are roiling, whirling
Up from the deep a terror is rising now
With valiant hearts, the cruel serpent they dared to defy
And many a valley of fiery arrows they let fly
By chance or fate a flaming bolt pierced the serpent's eye
And he hurled himself back to the depths with a terrifying cry

12. Siren Song

Sleepy, lost and adrift on the ocean
Darkness covering all that you see
With courage you raced toward the oncoming night
But now that it's here you're too tired to fight any more
Soothing, a voice on the mist; are you dreaming?
Look now; a gleam in the night lies ahead
Islands of sparkling jewels that shine
An angel alights on her way come to carry you there

13. The Isles Of Ice

She floats upon the wind and glides above the sea
With supple pale blue skin, her silver eyes are shimmering
She'll get inside your head and whisper fantasies
But soon you'll wish that you were dead; you'd do well to take heed
Imprisoned in paradise, bow down before your queen
None can resist her beckoning
Indulging in her delights and pleasures never ending
Bow down before your queen!
Her wicked heart is black but her voice is so soothing
And in her path lay ruined men; paupers, heroes, and kings
She comes from timeless past to haunt these isles of ice
Abandoned ships adrift are portents; heed the warning signs.
Imprisoned in paradise, bow down before your queen
None can resist her beckoning
Indulging in her delights and pleasures never ending
Bow down before your queen!

14. Procession Of The Damned

One after one the crew falls under her spell
The sea rises up and the ship's thrown along by the swell
Trapped and marooned on the isle of ice,
Now under control, in silence they march to her lair
He stands aside as the procession marches on
You're a fool, she laughs, to stray outside your hole where you belong
The mage says nothing, staring straight into her eyes
A flash of the blade brings him to his knees as he starts to bleed
And her wicked laughter rings as he falls to the ground and dies

15. Now To Your Ships

Now in the silence a warm wind begins to blow
The fog starts to lift and the sky has an amber glow
Too stunned to speak, this moment she's realized
Her spell has been broken, the prisoners now arise
Now to your ships, the battle is yours to take
Awaken, one and all, and sail unto the dawn

16. Moonrunner

Come with me, we'll sail away
To distant lands across the sea; destiny calls you and I
Enchanted worlds of mystery
With untold treasures, yours and mine, there for the taking
We'll ride with the wind in our sails, the stars will be our guide
We'll sail 'neath the light of the moon, and shift with the flow of the tide
Is it chance that brought us here?
Or could it be the hand of fate guiding our paths to meet?
Now's the time to break away,
Leave the past, and take the helm of your destiny
We'll ride with the wind in our sails, the stars will be our guide
We'll sail 'neath the light of the moon, and shift with the flow of the tide
As the Moonrunner rides through the night
We'll ride with the wind in our sails, the stars will be our guide
We'll sail 'neath the light of the moon, and shift with the flow of the tide
And the stars will be our guide... as the Moonrunner rides through the night
