NUX VOMICA LYRICS

1. Where Minds Can't Grow

In a section of the city seldom seen by the scene
Sectioned off from the world of intellectual educated affluence
People live lives and people die, beautiful lives, meaningful deaths
Leaving behind a wealth of evidence initials on a sidewalk
A broken baby carriage, spent shells and pink barrettes

Arranged in the dirt with chunks of cement, a collage of sights that nobody sees
A barrage of sounds too loud to hear, a cycle of despondent generations surrounded by depressing scenes on desolate streets
Crack whores, liquor stores, boarded up doors
Where Minds Can't Grow

And children don't know there's more, shards of glass smashed to sand in the pavement
Blowing in the diesel wind of a yellow bus bound for a haven of corruption and mistrust
Paint chips, red rust, and a failing system teaches the youth that there's not enough money

And a failing system can't trick the youth into thinking that its working
Wealthy racists keep the schools from educating youth
Poverty is violence, ghettos are the proof

A kid gets jumped on the way to school, he shows up ten minutes late
The principal gives him a lecture about the importance of education
The kid says "My mother's in a coma, my dad is gone, my brothers got shot, and they all went to your fucking school!"

He gets up, runs down the hall, walks out the door, turns around and says "Fuck you!"
"Now its payback time." He's looking for the kids who jumped him
Another angry youth in the street....

2. The Invasion

Crushing everything in sight, the invaders begin their bloody onslaught
They scratch and scrape and cut and pick at the ground, the trees, the rocks, the streams, and every living thing
Poking holes in the dirt, drilling and extracting, sending microscopic dragons up to burn holes in the sky
Brutish machines, all hard lines and heavy with technological baggage, flatten the mountains and block the rivers

Killing seems to be synonymous with existence to these invaders
Without mercy they spill the blood of anyone they see as a threat
And slaughter just about everyone and everything else
Just in case

A confused and childish bunch, these stupid fools don't fall in line with their natural surroundings
They try to manipulate nature
To fit their needs, fit their plan

They build straight up while trees branch outward
They dig straight canals while rivers meander
They pour hard concrete on the cool soft soil
They pump oil to the surface while underground it has a purpose

Level the forest to live in a box
Fences, walls, and doors with locks
'Cause the fools don't even trust each other
No tribal mentality
No sisters, no brothers

Their lives are full of lies and deceit
You can see it on their faces
No inner peace, such anger and tension
Treacherous villains full of hate and agression

Worst of all, they seem to think
That what they're doing really matters

3. The Discussants

The discussants on the panel have all the answers and all the questions
The discussants force the issues, leaving no question left unbegged, no stomach left unchurned
Let that acid burn, burn, burn...
Burn a hole straight through let them see what questioning has done for you

The discussants lie in bed and twitch, discussions leak from their parted lips
They dream they're a wave that lies to the shore, they roll over, snore, and lie some more
When they're done lying down, they get up and fly, and their discussions shoot across the sky

From state to state and station to station, they're playing hardball, defacing the nation
Through channels and airwaves they get in your head, making you think that you thought what they said

And you see them again, nodding heads, wearing ties, gesticulating and animated
Professional discussers through and through, they'll discuss a hole in you
They disgust you over dinner as they fill you with discussed issues skirted by a curtain of lies
Which washes away with the tide, leaving the shoreline exposed

And the questions pile up like driftwood, old and withered
Once towering in height, now hollow and light, beaten, battered, and scattered
And you realize what questioning has done for you
You've never had a question answered, always had your answers questioned

Never had a chance to ask a question your way, never had your say...
And a question has never increased your pay. Never.
Question.

4. Walk Through The Ashes

5. Corpses With Egos

My God is dead
My Goddess is dead

Infected with deceit, rabid and sadistic
Resisting our potential, self-loathing, schizophrenic
Unworthy, lowly, filthy, diseased, materialistic
Our God is dead
He's turned his back on us
Our Goddess is dead
She had no faith in us, she has no use for us

Orphaned we pray for an afterlife
Abusers - While we make the life we have
Building - Towers to house our giant egos
Erasing - Ideals and heroes
Losing - Our ability to function naturally
Unaware that our time's up
In denial of our own death

Running through the dark, we convince ourselves it's light
We laugh and carry on, while all day long it's night
Deserted and forsaken, our hope's a flimsy veil
Our existence is cosmetic, our lives are all for sale
Eternal guilt and infinite regret
Our sentence is a mirror, and we deserve it
Leave a hole in the side of the coffin
So you can reach out and drive the last nail
And as the dirt gets piled on, rest assured in peace
Cause your check's in the mail

We are deserted
We are abandoned
Dead

6. Kaumaha

Traveling across a vast expanse
Long canoes and handmade rafts
Navigational skills unsurpassed
The first to walk upon the golden sands

A thousand years, perhaps a thousand more
Island dwellers for centuries form
A union with the sky, sea, and land
Their history taught with legends and chants

One fateful day an usual sight
On the horizon, exotic ships
Tall masts with colorful flags
God-like figures with tri-cornered hats

Bedraggled sailors from an unknown place
Pale faces with mischievous eyes
Cast their gaze upon a glorious prize
Landfall is made and the captain steps down

From this day life is never the same
For the settlers of the island chain
Haole came and Haole took
So the islanders kill captain cook
So begins the sad and steady decline
Of a people from a simpler time...

More and more and more outsiders come in
From every corner of the Earth
And everyone wants to educate
And show the primitives the modern times
Christianize, industrialize, imperialize, and the natives confusion and disillusion
Leads to their diffusion and their demise....

Pulled all direction for 200 years
The last of the monarchies falls...

Polluted city sprawls across the southern rim
Rush hour has the buses stuck in traffic again
A man stumbles, children pointing at him
He's not conditioned for a world this grim

His eyes are burning like two tiny suns
He wonders what happened to his paradise
He holds a bottle and stares at the street
Cup full of coins is sitting at his feet

His family camps illegally in parks
Shantytowns of tents, trailers, and tarps
Their legacy is now a tourist hell
Tiki torches burn outside of the mall

KAUMAHA...
