New Music: Fifth Harmony - "Sledgehammer" [Full Audio / Review]

fifth harmony sledgehammer

During last night’s Ustream video chat with fans (7pm PT), Fifth Harmony unveiled the title of her debut album’s second single and therefore follow-up to “Boss”. “Sledgehammer” is the name of it. That was supposed to be the only “big thing” happening on Thursday night (Oct. 2 for Harmonizers all around world so imagine our surprise and reaction when San Francisco’s 104.3 FM radio played “Sledgehammer” in its entirety only a couple hours later!!! Shocked!!! And slayed!!! No kidding, they played the full song and apparently without 5H’s authorisation because hours AFTER this unexpected radio premiere, the girl band posted on Twitter this: "can't wait for you to hear it!!” (lol).

If this radio premiere had previously been agreed, Fifth Harmony would have promoted it on their socials. So somebody made a mistake here it seems. But anyway! Point is we already have “Sledgehammer”. Hear it below thanks to our exclusive stream!!! And pray 5H release it soon on iTunes. I would release it ASAP.

Fifth Harmony's debut album "Reflection" comes out "soon" via Epic Records.

“Sledgehammer” song review

The new Fifth Harmony single is a cute pop number where the girls sing about the spine-tingling emotions they feel when they are next to the boy they like. "If you could take my pulse right now / It would feel just like a sledgehammer”, sing The X Factor USA-formed group in the chorus of their new single.

Miley’s “Wrecking Ball” was the first thing I thought of when I read title of “Sledgehammer”. You know, because of Miley’s popular video where she licks a sledgehammer. But the Fifth Harmony’s new single has nothing to do with Miley’s song. In fact, “Sledgehammer” isn’t even a ballad but a cute mid-tempo. The change from “Boss” (urban pop) to “Sledgehammer” (pop pure) is quite drastic but I guess it's a nice strategy because this way Fifth Harmony can cater to all types of pop fans. The song is very cute and relatable – teenage girls will definitely turn this into their anthem - but I just don’t get #1 hit vibes from it. I think I need to see a fabulous music video first! My favourite part of the song? Without a doubt, the chorus. That’s magic!

Hit or Miss?
