Bobby Darin – If I Were A Carpenter lyrics
If I were a carpenter
And you were a lady
Would you marry me anyway
Would you have my baby

If a tinker were my trade
Would you still find me
Carrying the pots I'd made
Following behind me

Save my love through loneliness
Save my love for sorrows
I've given you my onliness
Come give me your tomorrows

If I worked my hands in wood
Would you still love me
Answer me babe yes I would
I'll put you above me

If I were a miller
At a mill wheel grinding
Would you miss your colored blouse
Your soft shoe shining

If I were a carpenter
And you were a lady
Would you marry me anyway
Would you have my baby

Would you marry me anyway
And have my babyyyyyyyyyyyyy

It is the paradox of love in two different worlds.
Can the affluent mix with the lesser. As was stated in the greatest game ever played. Frances quimet was invited to a ball at the brookline country club as a competing caddie and proceeded to dance with the daughter of one of the founders who states "you may have been invited here, but do not ever think that you belong here"

Do you love me for Who I am not What I am? Will you walk equally with me? Will you honor me as I honor you? I married a carpenter and to this very day I love him for his ability to create, and to put into whatever he does all that he is. His devotion, honesty and at times maddening truth as he sees it. His dad, also a carpenter, taught him to do things right so that you can put your name on it for posterity. Perfect no he isn't but he is who he is. He makes no excuses for himself. He is a no frills man and that is ok with me. When life's storms come, he is still there afterward, like a finely built piece of carpentry. I still love this song and think of him everytime I hear it!
