Muse – Resistance lyrics
Is our secret safe tonight
And are we out of sight
Will our world come tumbling down?
Will they find our hiding place
Is this our last embrace
Or will the world stop caving in
?

It could be wrong
Could be wrong
But it should've been right
It could be wrong
Could be wrong
To let our hearts ignite

It could be wrong
Could be wrong
Are we digging a hole
It could be wrong
Could be wrong
This is out of control
It could be wrong
Could be wrong
It can never last
It could be wrong
Could be wrong
Must erase it fast
It could be wrong
Could be wrong
But it could've been right
It could be wrong could be

Love is our resistance
They'll keep us apart they wont stop breaking us down
Hold me
Our lips must always be sealed

If we live our life in fear
I'll wait a thousand years
Just to see you smile again
Kill the prayers for love and peace
You'll wake the thought police
We can't hide the truth inside

It could be wrong
Could be wrong
But it should've been right
It could be wrong
Could be wrong
To let our hearts ignite
It could be wrong
Could be wrong
Are we digging a hole
It could be wrong
Could be wrong
This is out of control
It could be wrong
Could be wrong
It can never last
It could be wrong
Could be wrong
Must erase it fast
It could be wrong
Could be wrong
But it could've been right
It could be wrong could be

Love is our resistance
They'll keep us apart they wont stop breaking us down
Hold me
Our lips must always be sealed

The night has reached it's end
We can't pretend
We must run
We must run
It's time to run

Take us away from here
Protect us from further harm

The song is an allegory to George Orwell's novel 1984. The two people who this song is written about is Julia and Winston. They are in love in a world where love doesn't exist and thought police monitor your inner most thoughts from outward perspectives. They are speaking of their secret rendezvous where they truly feel alive. The final stanza is the catharsis to where Winston is forced to betray his love to Julia. Read the book and you will see the resemblance.

Digogo is just an unschooled brat. It's absolutely an influence (if not the actual inspiration) of orwell. Matt's a little genious. If you really think he just made a cute love song you should really wake up and start to find the deeper meanings of everything you think is cute. This is what I call in my country intervention music.
The last revolution of the 20th century in europe literaly started with a song called "grandola vila morena". When this banned song played on the radio, everyone went to the streets and took down the regime.

I love this song. I am currently reading george orwell's 1984, the mention of thought police would directly relate to it.
My interpretation of the song is that they have/have been doing something that is illegal and they must hide it and themselves to keep away from harm (persecution). They have love though and that is what keeps them going, love is very strong. They obviously also feel like outsiders, they do not agree with government (they probably believe in anarchy).
A song that anarchists can relate to: 3

I've read Orwell's 1984 several times, and this is one heck of a killer song, I don't knock it at all. (I don't even like modern music, usually.)
Yet, somehow, when I realized that it was so heavily linked to the book, it actually lost a little for me.
Really, the first verse is what gripped me the most- that musical picture just grabbed me a pulled me straight in.
Heh. Now I want to write an equivalently awesome song that focuses on the moment portrayed in the first verse. Unfortunately, I'm not that awesome.

Beating the elites control system through non compliance and love :)
We have 2 choices in this time of quickening as 2012 approaches. Love or fear. The universe is mental and we can manifest what ever we perceive. The control system is exposed at this time on purpose. It's not by accident. They want us to know about it and live in fear so we manifest it. They know how the universe works. Don't acknowledge it, live in love and non compliance. Don't feed the machine :)

This song is defenetly inspired from the novel george orwell 1984, in fact the whole album is. The navel releases the idea of negative utopia and the album title resistance has a major meaning here. The album logo is represented by various colours which translate the opposite state presented in the novel. The whole album repeats this idea, mk Ultra, Uprising, Resistance are 3 obvious proofs. The songs areall meaningfull unlike other songs, that's why muse are amazing. Until now I didn't find any muse song presenting superficial issues. Love you muse! Hope you come to Lebanon soon, you have lots of fans here!

I love this song. I do think its about forbidden love. Two people in a relationship and maybe people don't want them together?, and the only resistance they have is "love". This is one of my favorite songs from muse, but then again all of muse's songs are my favorite,. This song is amazing, because love is everyones resistnce. And I hate how some muse songs are in the twilight saga's soundtrack. I like being the only one knowing about them:(altho I do recommend for people to listen to em. Great song and muse is amazing!

The mere mention of "thought police" is a clear giveaway of what inspired this song: Orwell's 1984! And yes, there is a forbidden love story in that book too, just like Bellamy penned in this song. Therefore, although it's not the greatest creative effort you'll see, it is still a great song.
Btw, it's clear that a lot of the "Resistance" album was inspired in 1984 - there's even that Anthem-like song called "United States of Eurasia" (again, a clear reference to George Orwell which they didn't even try to mask).

"resistance" is a message to the world that the world is breaking down and that it will soon devolve into a corrupt, totally repressive police state. For those who know the bible, particularly the book of daniel and the book of revelation, the message is clear - we must keep our mouths shut as we will soon be openly persecuted by the new orwellian system (the new world order). Some people will accept the idea of the illuminati but most will not, as that majority prefers to live in darkness and feels safer knowing nothing. The writer is speaking to and about Jesus (yahushua), the promised returning messiah who is in actuality, the living spirit of the creator, that is to say, the spirit of love, as that is what the creator (god) is. We must keep our lips sealed as the conquering dark lords of this world will seek to wipe out all resistance through their network of informers, chips, implants, and spies, both electronic and human. The writer of "resistance" knows of the spirit of fear that will envelop this planet in the dark days and years to come and he knows that we may be defeated for a time but that we will "smile again" as he says, in the coming millennium (1000 year period) that was promised by yahushua in the book of revelation. Hitler tried to set up a 1000 year kingdom (reich) as the satanic (antichrist) way of mocking christ but was defeated in the second of the illuminati's great wars. The illuminati are now in the process of stirring up the people of the world against one another in preparation for the starting of their third and final war which they believe will cause the survivors to clamor for their intervention as world leaders to save the people from more devastation. The illuminati are the cause of virtually all troubles on this planet as they gain power from confusion and chaos and of course, they are helped by the people who, in their brutal ignorance, elect and allow those lunatics to lead the nations of this planet. We the people must awake and understand that we are this world and that we can and must live without corrupt satanic governments (the beast of revelation) if we truly learn to love god the creator and our fellow humans and treat them as we would wish to be treated. The writer of this song was inspired by the resistors (resistance) of this world system but he most likely has no idea that he was. The resistance (the holy spirit) works in the hearts and minds of humans to set us free through understanding the connection we have with the creator. Most, however, choose to ignore the creator and live their lives in ignorance. That is why we are facing destruction. If the human race does not wake up we will have to face the inevitable destruction and oppression of the evil ones who are among us. Pray to the creator now that resistance will continue as the hearts of humans expand to accept and love god as he wishes for us to do. If we do that, freedom will follow. This is truth and truth will set us free. God bless you all.

It is based off the classical british novel '1984' by george orwell, which is set in a totalitarian world, the thought police erase people who think negatively or do any for, of action that goes against party regime, this song is about breaking free from that, and questioning what the truth is (the party falsify history and replace it with their own version to suit the party) and the party itself.

Read 1984 by george orwell. This song is about the forbidden romance between winston and julie. In the book 1984, s** is reserved strictly for the purpose of reproduction, and s** for pleasure is deviation, and a crime. The thought police are agents of the government who imprison citizens for dissident thoughts in the extreme 1984 society of police, military and surveillance. Whether or not you like this song, read 1984. It's a great book, and many things in the classic work of fiction are now reality. In addition, read about neoliberalism, and make the parallel between 1984 and proliferation of neoliberalism in the world-especially in the united states.

I totally agree with the fellow writting about the song's writer's influence by orwell's "1984". Don't believe, thought, that it has to do with an actual love-affair. It's my belief that it talks about standing up to this f*d up situation we live in, and the fact that we need love and unity so as to "watch our flag ascend" as mentioned in "uprising", the first song of the album.

A direct reference to george orwell's "1984". The direct reference to the thought police, the secret hiding place, winston and julia's last embrace. They wait for a thousand years for the regime of big brother to fall, and they try to hide the truth inside. Winston's faith in o'brien to protect him in the ministry of love, when he is the one who tortures him, and who decides when to let him go. Impeccable!

This song I think pertains to shakespeare's romeo and juliet. The scenes that are described such as "is our secret safe tonight" references to the first time that rome saw juliet during the ball/party. They ask themselves if it is right since their families, who are enemies, have a sworn vow of hate towards each other. The love that they hold towards each other is the only resistance that is left to reason. "the night has reached its end" romeo deserts his lover due to dawn penetrating the windowpanes, he leaves and quickly leaves the place.

Everyone keeps talking about this 1984 book. I think I'm gonna have to read that. So thanks for that. It seems that everyone is annoyed because some people only like muse because of twilight. I mean, twilights okay. But I'm just glad they put muse music on it, or else I probably wouldn't have found out about them. I think it was a good way for them to get their music out there. Gotta love em :)

I'm just glad to see that my little bit of english nerdiness has effected you guys this way. Just remember, every emotion, every feeling, every concept that is invoked upon you from a song is intended, and even if it's not, you must search for deeper meaning. By looking past the fact that this song has meaning to just you personally, finding a deeper meaning, you have too become an artist, you have given birth to an idea.

I think this song is about two people in love. But their surrounded by people who don't want them to be togehter. And they only have a certain amount of time before their found. Yet they say theyll never stop loving eachother, and this is their resistance. I think it also mirrors in someway how cruel people can be about love, and how true love, will always prevail.
Greatest lyrics ever. Second only to Winter winds.
